The world of electronic sports, or commonly called e-sports, began to glance at McLaren Racing. The British Formula 1 racing team plans to create a new division specifically for e-sports.
Reported by Engadget, McLaren is reportedly preparing an e-sport program called ‘Shadow Project’ to find the talents and talents of gamers to compete in racing game competitions.
The program is promised to be open to anyone who wants to participate to show their greatness in playing not one but several virtual racing games.
Games offered include iRacing and rFactor 2 on PC, Forza Motorsport on Xbox One, to Real Racing 3 games on iOS and Android.
“By increasing more than a few platforms in the online world, it will establish McLaren as an important brand in the racing esport community,” McLaren CEO Zak Brown was quoted as saying by Slash Gear.
Global online qualifications will begin in August 2018, and that is for all the games they have chosen. The semi-finals will be held in November 2018, with the finals taking place in January 2019.
The winner will join the McLaren e-sport team to compete racing against other e-sport teams around the world.
The company added that the races of the qualifiers, semi-finals and finals will be broadcast live, with details of the scoring system and vehicle selection will be announced in the next few weeks.
